Petsitting 5 juni - 9 juni en uitstapje naar San Francisco / Petsitting June 5 - June 9 and trip to San Francisco
Het plaatsje San Rafael ligt een half uurtje ten noorden van San Francisco. We passen op makkelijke poes Bumi in een klein rustig gelegen appartementje. Het appartementencomplex heeft de beschikking over een zwembad en een hot tub, waar we natuurlijk gebruik van maken.
Achter het complex liggen hoge bergen waar een leuke hike te maken is. We turen in de verte en denken dat we San Francisco spotten. Op zondag bezoeken we San Francisco via de golden bridge. Het blijkt gay month te zijn in San Francisco en overal hangen gay vriendelijke leuzen en gekleurde vlaggen. We bezoeken het centrum van de Self Realization Fellowship waar we mediteren en wandelen wat door de stad. Het is inderdaad een erg leuke stad, met veel verschillende huizen bouw, kleurrijke mensen en schilderingen.
Op vrijdagavond (6-6) krijgt Lida een mailtje van Esta (electronisch systeem voor reisvergunningen) dat er verwacht wordt dat ze het land verlaat binnen 10 dagen. Shit. We wilden eigenlijk op 28 juni weg om mee te kunnen doen aan de convocation in Los Angeles aan het eind van de maand. We staan voor een dilemma. Het dilemma is vooral ook dat Gabrielle wel een visum heeft en Lida niet. Lida moet dus het land uit na haar toeristen visum van 90 dagen, Gabrielle niet. De hele reis stond ook in het teken van de convocation van Self Realisation Fellowship. En we dachten wat te gemakkelijk dat Lida gewoon wel langer kon blijven. Nu worden we echter keihard met de realiteit geconfronteerd. Maar het is wel duidelijk dat we in het huidige politieke klimaat geen risico’s kunnen nemen. Nadat we flink wat emoties moesten doorwerken is de keuze gemaakt en regelen we een nieuw ticket naar Costa Rica.
Opeens hebben we nog maar 1 week om te blijven. En we moeten een aantal afspraken herzien.
Om met de woorden van Kim te spreken: als dit het ergste is van je reis dan valt het nog mee….
Kim is onze volgende pet parent. Eigenlijk zouden we pas de 13e aankomen, maar nu schiet Kim ons te hulp en kunnen we al op 9 juni in haar cabin in de bergen bij Santa Cruz komen.

Petsitting June 5 - June 9 and trip to San Francisco
The town of San Rafael is a half hour north of San Francisco. We babysit coozy cat Bumi in a small quiet apartment. The apartment complex has a swimming pool and hot tub, which of course we take advantage of.
Behind the complex are high mountains where you can take a nice hike. We stare into the distance and think we spot San Francisco. On Sunday we visit San Francisco via the Golden Bridge. It turns out to be gay month in San Francisco and there are gay friendly slogans and colored flags everywhere. We visit the center of the Self Realization Fellowship where we meditate and do some walking through the city. It is indeed a very nice city, with many different house construction, colorful people and paintings.
On Friday night (6-6), Lida gets an email from Esta (electronic travel permit system) that she is expected to leave the country within 10 days. Shit. We actually wanted to leave on June 28 to join the convocation in Los Angeles at the end of the month. We face a dilemma. The dilemma is mainly also that Gabrielle has a visa and Lida does not. So Lida has to leave the country after her 90-day tourist visa, Gabrielle does not. The whole trip was also about convocation of Self Realisation Fellowship. And we thought a bit too easy that Lida could just stay longer. Now, however, we are being confronted harshly with reality. But it is clear that in the current political climate we cannot take risks. After we had to work through quite a few emotions, the decision has been made and we are arranging a new ticket to Costa Rica.
Suddenly we have only 1 week left to stay. And we have to reschedule some appointments.
To speak with the words of Kim: if this is the worst part of your trip then it's not so bad....
Kim is our next pet parent. Actually, we were not supposed to arrive until the 13th, but this time, Kim is very helpful and we can get into her cabin in the mountains near Santa Cruz already on June 9.
