Fietsen langs de Pacific Ocean

Fietsen met de zorgmedewerksters van Simon / Cycling with Simon's care workers

We kregen een uitnodiging van de zorgmedewerksters van Simon om mee te gaan fietsen langs de pacific ocean?". Wij, Gab en Li, zeggen nooit nee tegen een fietstocht en al helemaal niet langs de pacific ocean.

Wat hebben we heerlijk gefietst. Aangezien de medewerksters niet zulke vlotte fietsers waren, kregen wij de permissie om halverwege de rit, het fietspad met zijn tweeën verder te fietsen. We zoefden heerlijk, met de zwoele wind in ons gezicht over het goede fietspad. Na elke bocht kwamen er oe's en aa's uit mijn mond rollen. Wat een prachtig uitzicht, kijk eens wat een hoge palmbomen en zie daar een ongerept stukje strand. Een plaatje, bestemd voor in een vakantie folder.

Het fietspad eindigde met een hek. Het pad liep achter het hek door in een soort van trail. Voor ons eindigde het fietsen dus nog niet. Nieuwsgierig fietsten we over het rode zandpad tussen de grasstruiken door. Wanneer je de weg niet kent is het spannend en tegelijk verrassend wat je tegenkomt. We fietsten lekker naar beneden, dus gingen we richting zee niveau. In mijn achterhoofd heb ik dan wel de gedachte:" Mmm, dit moeten we ook weer omhoog". Maar mijn nieuwsgierigheid wint het van mijn hersenspinsel. Na een stukje fietsen op het smalle pad vol struikgewas, opende zich opeens een plek met een baai. Wauw geweldig! 

Na een tijdje keerden we om en fietsten terug naar de drie zorgmedewerksters. Waar hingen de dames uit? We vonden ze op Keãlia Beach. Na een uitgebreide fotosessie fietsten we terug naar de fietsverhuur. Voldaan en blij vertrokken we naar Coconut Marketplace waar we met elkaar een lunch verorberden. Het was super leuk, gezellig en opgenomen in de Kauaiaanse "cultuur". Dank voor de uitnodiging. We hebben genoten!

Cycling with Simon's care workers

We received an invitation from Simon's care workers to join us for a bike ride along the pacific ocean?”. We, Gab and Li, never say no to a bike ride and especially along the pacific ocean.

How wonderfully we cycled. Because the co-workers were not such fluent cyclists, we were given permission to continue cycling the bike path with the two of us, halfway through the ride. We were gliding along the good bike path with the breezy wind in our faces. After every turn, oe's and aa's came rolling out of my mouth. What a beautiful view, look what a high palms and see untouched stretch of beach. A picture, destined for a vacation brochure. 

The bike path ended with a fence. The path continued behind the fence in a kind of trail. So for us, the cycling did not end yet. Curious, we cycled along the red dirt path between the grass bushes. When you don't know the trail, it is exciting and at the same time surprising what you will encounter. We cycled nicely downhill, so we headed towards sea level. In the back of my mind I have the thought:“ Mmm, we have to go up this way too”. But my curiosity wins out over my concoction. After cycling a bit on the narrow path full of bushes, a place with a bay suddenly opened up. Wow great! 

After a while we turned around and cycled back to the three care workers. Where were the ladies hanging out? We found them at Keãlia Beach. After an extensive photo session, we cycled back to the bike rental. Fulfilled and happy, we left for Coconut Marketplace where we consumed lunch together. It was super fun, cozy and integrated into the Kauaian “culture”. Thanks for the invitation. We enjoyed!
